Meet Cody Johnson
“I try to bring 100% to every show I do”
In the past 7 years Country music Artist Cody Johnson has gone from performing a few times a year with his Dad and a friend to a 5 member band and full time tour schedule. In the past few years the Cody Johnson Band has had numerous number one hits on the Texas Music charts, including their most recent single ‘ Ride With Me.’ Cody is perhaps best known for his high energy performances and his unique blend of Country and Rock. “I try to bring 100% to every show I do,” says Cody. Adding, “I’ve tried to learn from some of the best. Legendary performers like Chris Ledoux, Garth Brooks and Jim Morrison.”
Cody, originally from the small East Texas town of Sebastopol, began playing the guitar and singing when he was 12 years old. His Mom and Dad (who both just recorded a bonus track with him on his newest CD out this winter) also sing and play various instruments. Cody says growing up in a family where everyone loved music helped develop his deep love and appreciation for all genres of music. In addition to being a competitive bull rider, Cody played the guitar, drums and sang at his church. He started his first band as a High School freshman, when one of his teachers encouraged him to compete in the Texas State FFA talent contest. The band placed ‘ Runner up,’ becoming Cody’s first taste of performing with a band.
After a few years working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Huntsville supervising prison inmates, Cody decided to pursue his dream of songwriting and performing full time. Cody left his ‘day job’ just 3 years ago, shortly after winning the Texas Regional Music Awards “New Male Vocalist of the Year.” Cody and his wife Brandi tour together full time. When not touring they divide their time between their home in Texas and trips to Nashville meeting with Cody’s management team, writing and recording. Cody says he doesn’t want to be labeled as Texas or Nashville, adding, “I’m me. Texas, outlaw, cowboy, country and a God fearing man using the gift He gave me.”
